LEGO 3741 Large Locomotive is a Trains 9V set released in 2001, containing 92 pieces. It builds a larger push-powered steam locomotive body designed as the base for the My Own Train system, supplied without color bricks and customized via add-on packs 3743 Blue Bricks, 3744 Green Bricks, 3745 Black Bricks, 3746 Brown Bricks, and 3747 Dark Grey Bricks. Box markings indicated the chosen color pack, and the locomotive could connect to set 3742 Tender. The set is the larger counterpart to 3740 Small Locomotive and was also included in product collection 65537 Classic Freight Train.

“The Lego 3741 Large Locomotive is not really a train set, then again, it’s not really a addition either, it’s a bit of both in one. This is the "My Own Train" Locomotive Kits, the set includes 92 pieces. Unfortunately, this set does not run on 9 volt rails, or on anything... More for that matter. It is just push power. The default color for the 3740 Small Locomotive, and 3742 Tender, is blue but with the 3743 – 3747 sets, you can change the color of the train from anything from green, black, brown, and dark grey. This set holds a lot in common with the 3740, being a larger version of it.”

About Trains 9V

LEGO Trains is one of the longer running themes that dates back from 1966 and ran up until 2006. During its run there were multiple sets released running on various power platforms from 4.5volt, to 9 and 12 volt sets. Later in 2011 LEGO released additional train sets using RC and Power Functions controllers under different themes like City.

9V consists of 67 sets that ran from 1991 to 2006. As of today, 4558 Metroliner is the most valuable 9V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $1,381.
