“This tiny set can be considered one of the pioneers for the design of Legoland town sets. As such, it sets some standards for the coming years such as the driver's place and the two-size wheels, and it introduces some killer-popular pieces (the arms and bucket, the road... More sign, the minifig's spade and pick).”

“This 1979 LEGO set features a digger with two minifigures, offering a straightforward construction design typical of the era. The set includes a functional digger assembly, a road work sign, and tools like a shovel and pickaxe, adding realism to the construction theme. Its USA-only release makes it a unique piece of LEGO history.”

About Town Classic

The LEGO Town Classic theme, active from 1978 to 1981, introduced foundational sets that established the urban layout concept in the LEGO world. Notable sets include 1592 Town Square Castle Scene, which combined medieval and modern elements, and 381-2 Police Headquarters, a prominent city infrastructure piece. The 379 Bus Station provided public transport centrality, while 600-2 Police Car offered essential city law enforcement. These sets, among others, played a critical role in defining the classic LEGO town aesthetic.

Classic consists of 45 sets that ran from 1978 to 1981. As of today, 1592 Town Square Castle Scene is the most valuable Classic set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $2,651.
