Insights

Released in the Classic Town line and long retired, Shell Petrol Tanker (set 671) carries licensed Shell branding that drives nostalgia-led demand and scarce sealed supply, and while low remake risk supports long-term hold potential, thin trading and condition sensitivity add volatility.

Set Facts

The set includes a Shell gasoline semitrailer truck (petrol tanker) with a driver, a Shell-branded stickered brick, and a fuel hose.
The truck is not minifigure scale, and a minifigure cannot fit in the cabin.
This set is only available in Continental Europe, the UK, Australia, and Canada.
A version branded with Exxon was released in the United States in 1979 as set 554 Exxon Fuel Tanker.
It is a co-branded set with Shell.

Brickset

Very good for its time — “At the time in the early 1980s, it was unusual for toys to reflect the branding we saw in the real world so the Shell logos were something we considered to be rather cool (we also had the 6610 Shell Petrol Pumps, and the two went together very well) back then. Though of... More course it was all done with stickers, which limits the rebuild opportunities.”

BrickEconomy Member Review

“The Shell Petrol Tanker (671-1) is a classic LEGO set with a simple yet imaginative build, featuring clever details like the fuel hose and shuttered doors. Though the cab is undersized and can't accommodate a minifigure, the set offers an interesting challenge and serves as a fun addition to any vintage LEGO town display. The Shell branding adds a nostalgic touch, even though sticker applications may limit rebuild options.”
