658-2 1:87 VW Van/ VW Bus was an Classic HO 1:87 Vehicles set released initially released in 1964. This was the first version of the VW Van to have transparent windows. It was packaged in a paper cardboard presentation box and was released Released only in Continental Europe excluding the United Kingdom. The set was the same as sets 258-2 1and 275-2 released in Denmark, Norway and Sweden in 1956-1958.

The VW Vans ran in a number of promotions and there are about a dozen different promotional variations known. The variations of the van come in a number of colors and markings. Some promotions came with custom brandings such as the all white KOLEVOGN (~$1200 USD), the all green "KASTNER & OHLER" van (~$1200 USD), and blue and gray PHILIPS van (~$350 USD).

It is important to note that different variations or brandings have very different values.
1:87 VW Van is an extremely old and very rare LEGO set. We have not seen set 658-2 currently for sale online or in the hundreds of retail stores in good/new condition in over 1,188 days. Because of the rarity of this hard to find set the current estimated value of $233.18 might actually be much lower than the true value, assuming this set can be found for sale.Because 1:87 VW Van is a very old set from 1964, finding it in a sealed and good condition might be difficult thus making the true value even that much higher.

About Classic HO 1:87 Vehicles

The LEGO HO 1:87 Vehicles subtheme, also referred to as LEGO small vehicles where plastic sets released in the 1950's and 1960's to compliment LEGO sets which could be used to build houses, gas stations, garages, shops and more. These vehicles sets remailed in production for almost ten years until they were replaced by LEGOLAND vehicles in the early 1970s. LEGO made the these small 1:87 scale vehicles until around 1969.

HO 1:87 Vehicles consists of 37 sets that ran from 1961 to 1966. As of today, 649-2 1:87 Mercedes Shell Tanker is the most valuable HO 1:87 Vehicles set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $2,849.
