LEGO 658 1:87 VW Van is a vintage Classic set from 1964 valued at $215 for new and sealed sets, up 30669% from an original retail price of $0.70. Annual appreciation has averaged 9.06% since release. On the used market, values range from $60 to $95 based on condition.
The 658-2 1:87 VW Van/VW Bus was a Classic HO 1:87 Vehicles set first released in 1964. This was the first version of the VW Van to feature transparent windows and was packaged in a paper cardboard presentation box. It was exclusively released in Continental Europe, excluding the United Kingdom, and was identical to sets 258-2 and 275-2, which were available in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden between 1956 and 1958.
The set was used in several promotions, resulting in approximately a dozen known variations with different colors and markings. Some promotional versions included custom branding, such as the all-white "KOLEVOGN" ($1,200 USD), the all-green "KASTNER & OHLER" ($1,200 USD), and the blue and gray "PHILIPS" van (~$350 USD). Notably, the value of these variations varies significantly depending on branding and rarity.
A new and sealed 1:87 VW Van is currently valued at around $215, with annual growth of approximately 9%. The average used price is $75 for those in good overall condition. Based on current trends, this set could be valued near $233 within the next year.
1:87 VW Van (658-2) is an exceptionally old and rare LEGO set. It has not been available online or in retail stores in good/new condition for over 2 years. Due to its rarity, the estimated value in sealed condition of $215.38 may understate its true worth, assuming one can even be found for sale. Since this set was released in 1964, finding it sealed and well-preserved is exceptionally difficult—making complete sets with intact boxes museum-grade collectibles.
There are currently no new/sealed listings available for 658-2 1:87 VW Van at this time.
