“The flagship set of the year 1985. Back in those days, high-speed trains like the TGV and ICE were THE big thing. Lego was very up to date with this set. And it was really expensive, nearly as twice as the technic flagship 8860 car chassis. A true flagship set, and a perfect... More reference to the 1980s "Zeitgeist".”

“The train itself is fairly big and bulky, something that I’m not really much of a fan of, but back then it was impressive. A connection I can make with this set is with a more modern set the 7938 Passenger Train, with its more modern skinnier less blocky look. But blocky is... More not necessary mean it’s a bad thing, it means it durable! You can accidently knock it over with your feet, or have a head on collision with another train, ant it won’t break. This would make a good addition to any Lego Train set.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,957.
