A 12v freight train without steam engine — “A fresh style, this is what comes to my mind when looking at this set. Another proof that Lego wanted to provide variety. According to today's availability, it must have been a huge success in selling figures.”

“There is the main train engine that runs on the 12 volt track, two flat storage wagons, and a passenger wagon. Besides the trains themselves, it also came with three vehicles, two motorcycles one blue and one white, and a refueling cart. The vehicles have no other purpose... More then to serve as to be played with separately, unlike a forklift in many sets that have a purpose of being there. Yet another Shell funded set, but that does not necessary mean that it is a bad set.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7730 Electric Goods Train Set is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $5,315.
