LEGO 7735 Freight Train Set is a Trains 4.5V/12V set released in 1985, containing 509 pieces and 2 minifigures. Part of the 12V grey era, it features a modern-styled diesel locomotive in Shell yellow-and-red livery pulling three freight wagons, and includes a Shell Worker minifigure. It is noted as the first and only 12V grey-era freight train that does not use a steam engine. The set was also titled Electric Mixed Train Set, and the locomotive was described as the “Hercules Engine” in the German catalog; production variants include conducting rails with or without holes.

“There is the main train engine that runs on the 12 volt track, two flat storage wagons, and a passenger wagon. Besides the trains themselves, it also came with three vehicles, two motorcycles one blue and one white, and a refueling cart. The vehicles have no other purpose... More then to serve as to be played with separately, unlike a forklift in many sets that have a purpose of being there. Yet another Shell funded set, but that does not necessary mean that it is a bad set.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $7,186.
