“These are worth a critical point in that they are chunky but compared to the modern segmented effect railway sleeper I found them preferable. The 12V system is still popular and had some great sets. With these rails along with power and the control accessories it really does... More transform; your railway, Lego landscapes and the whole feeling of the hobby.”

“The Lego 7854 8 Straight Electric Grey Rails is a re-release of its 750: Straight Rails. The only difference is that the color of the rails changed from blue, to grey. It still has the same functions as past rails, and you still need the standard 4.5 rails, such as the 7850,... More and 7851 to make it actually run. These are only compatible with 12 volt train sets.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

4512V covers the LEGO trains of the 4.5 V and 12 V systems from the 1970s and 1980s. The 4.5 V trains ran on batteries carried in a wagon or tender, while the 12 V trains drew power from conductor rails laid between the running rails, fed by a transformer with a speed control. Until 1980 the track was blue, which gave these years the name of the Blue Era.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,368.
