“1985 saw the release of this new crane wagon. It looks more modern than 7814, e.g. the crane cabin has a roof now. But from technical view, it is less sophisticated. There is only one winch, and the angle of the crane arm is locked by a hinge plate construction. Fortunately,... More the model has support stands, this is a big improvement compared to 7814.”

“The Lego 7817 Crane Wagon is another attachment for the Lego train line. Like always the type of train set does not matter, it is both compatible with 4.5, and 12 volt line. This set is similar to previous sets, such as the 128: Mobile Crane and 134: Mobile Crane and Wagon,... More seeing how they both do the same thing, but the 7817 Crane wagon is the combination of the two. This crane can both lift and drop cargo onto trains, as well as carrying it along. This set includes 147 pieces, and comes with one minifigure. This would make a good addition to any Lego Train set.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,034.
