LEGO 8009 R2-D2 is a Star Wars Technic set released in 2002, containing 240 pieces. The buildable droid features a 360-degree rotating head, a retractable middle foot, and an extendable tool arm activated by a lever under a front panel. All three feet have wheels so the model can roll, and a red element is included as an alternative to the standard blue “eye” to depict R2-D2’s hologram projection appearance. “I think that for $20.00 this is a great set. It both looks good and works well. There is something to watch out for though: the soft axles on his feet, if left on display for a long time, won't be so soft anymore. The two on mine are permanently bent into that shape. But as... More long as you take them off periodically and straighten them out it shouldn't get too bad. The only thing this set left me wanting was an alternate model.”

The LEGO Star Wars Technic theme combined the detailed, mechanical building approach of LEGO Technic with iconic characters from the Star Wars universe.
