“Set 8853, released in 1988, is for some reason called an "Excavator" in the USA even though it is clearly a loader. It is an example of an increasingly advanced construction vehicle which features rear rack and pinion steering, and a raising and dumping bucket using clever... More mechanics.”

“The Excavator from the Lego Technic series is another well-made model. It’s created from relatively few parts, it’s beautiful and very similar to the original. In addition, the Excavator is robustly constructed so you can have fun with it. Of course the model is kept very... More simple, e.g. there is no motor, so it’s not quite enough for the highest score. Nevertheless, the model should not be missing from any collection.”

About Technic

TECHNIC is one of The LEGO Company's main lines based on creating detailed model machines and mechanical toys with specialized beams, axles, gears and connectors and primarily designed for older children and adults. The theme was first introduced as the Expert Builder series in 1977, but was officially renamed as TECHNIC in 1984. TECHNIC is still an active theme, and is one of the longest running themes in LEGO history. While most TECHNIC sets are vehicles that use pieces to mimic real vehicles, such as engine pieces, suspension, pneumatic, and transmission pieces, the TECHNIC parts have been used by various other System themes as well as LEGO Mindstorms.
