Kakapo Reviews
Brick Fanatics
“The model, which is based on an endangered species of flightless parrot from New Zealand has proven more popular amongst builds than some may have been expecting with a unique and adorable build that may remind some of a larger version of 21301 Birds. “It has also been great to see this project evolve into a set through the BrickLink Designer Program. It is impressive that it was also selected in Round 1. The Kakapo has a more groomed look than the original LEGO Ideas submission. Hayden and his original LEGO Ideas... More submission, as well as this model, have helped raise awareness of the plight of these critically endangered flightless birds.”

The kakapo (Strigops habroptila) is an iconic flightless, nocturnal parrot that is only found in New Zealand. It is critically endangered and currently has a population of just over 200 individuals.
I chose to design and build the kakapo as I am passionate about New Zealand and its unique wildlife. It is my intention that this model will raise awareness for the kakapo, as well as other endangered species from around the world.
The new and improved design is constructed from just over 1,000 bricks. The model is free-standing and completely flightless, just like a real kakapo! It features rotatable and extendable wings, posable tail feathers, and also comes with a mini-build baby kakapo.
