LEGO 9731 Vision Command is a Mindstorms accessory set released in 2000, containing 138 pieces. It includes the LEGO Cam digital color camera and computer software, enabling robots to respond to visual input and integrate with the Robotics Invention System. The software provides Training Missions and a Command Center to program behaviors based on motion, light, and color, as well as capture images. At the 2001 Nuremberg Toy Fair, a demonstration used card recognition to trigger theme-based drink service.

“While Vision Command had more a focus on robotics, and while I did enjoy using it to build Mindstorms contraptions that would react to certain things the camera was seeing, I was much more interested in the brickfilm capabilities of the camera. I spent many hours on my... More bedroom floor creating stop-motion short films, be it a podrace, a fight between Bionicle figures, or Johnny Thunder’s latest adventure. The fact that I was able to bring my LEGO alive and create engaging stories for people to watch was like magic to me!”

The included camera is capable of taking pictures and recording video, which can be organized in a gallery, though the image quality is somewhat lacking. Additionally, the Logitech software provides basic editing tools for customizing your projects.”
