Insights

Released as an employee-only promotional item and long retired, Ramboll Oil Platform draws interest from promo collectors because its corporate-only distribution created pronounced scarcity, and its industrial, minifigure-free design narrows the buyer base and keeps trading thin and occasionally volatile.

“The instructions are printed on thick glossy paper, a real classy one actually. The set is basically built into sections, first of is the base that stand on the ocean floor. Then comes the first & lowest level of the platform itself. Followed by the middle level. And at last... More but not least the upper level with the heli-pad.”

Eurobricks

“This set was given out at a Norwegian oil fair in august. The back story is more or less that someone at Rambøll stumbled upon Lego Digital Designer and decided that this approach could be immensely useful in their line of work. Thus they entered into a cooperation with TLG... More to make an adaptation of LDD for quick sketching/conceptual development of oil rigs and rig modules.”

The smallest is a single red 2x4 brick, sold through McDonald's in Germany in 1999 for its children's charity. Ramboll Oil Platform (2008) went to employees of the Danish engineering firm Ramboll in fewer than 100 copies.

Miscellaneous was introduced in 1999 and currently consists of 25 sets. As of today, Ramboll Oil Platform is the most valuable Miscellaneous set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $395.
