LEGO 2005 / City Sets

In 2005 LEGO released 45 City sets across 8 subthemes. The largest City set from 2005 was 65800 City Construction Collection with a piece count of 1012 and a retail price of $99.99. The current estimated value of all these City sets from this year is about $5,148.20 which represents a 480% growth.

The LEGO City theme is based on city life with the sets depicting city and emergency services, police, fire, airport, train, construction, and civilian services. The City theme proceeded LEGO Town which was replaced with LEGO World City in before it was rebranded as City in 2005.

2005 LEGO Sets

2005 shaped up to be a significant year for LEGO collections. Starting with the fact that LEGO System celebrated its 50th anniversary, we also saw a LEGO set designers change their techniques in set designing. 2006 marked the year that the skin color of the Star Wars minifigures changed from yellow to light nougat which also continued to various other future licensed themes. While this was a simple change, the value of sets saw high growth. 2006 introduced the LEGO City theme which replaced the Town theme, as well as Tiny Turbos under the Racers theme. However, in 2006 LEGO did discontinue Alpha Team and Baby.
