LEGO 2005 Sets

In 2005 LEGO proved once again to be a supurb year for collectors with the release of 351 sets, many highly sought after. This included 38 promotional and special released sets in addition to the 313 retail sets released through LEGO.com, the LEGO store and various other retail channels.

Based on the 351 sets released for that year, the retail value was $8,406.91 with a current value of $75,691.11 for the combined new/factory sealed sets. As of present, the best performing theme for 2005 is currently Exclusive which has seen an average annual growth of upwards of 13% to date.

2005 shaped up to be a significant year for LEGO collections. Starting with the fact that LEGO System celebrated its 50th anniversary, we also saw a LEGO set designers change their techniques in set designing. 2006 marked the year that the skin color of the Star Wars minifigures changed from yellow to light nougat which also continued to various other future licensed themes. While this was a simple change, the value of sets saw high growth. 2006 introduced the LEGO City theme which replaced the Town theme, as well as Tiny Turbos under the Racers theme. However, in 2006 LEGO did discontinue Alpha Team and Baby.

Notable collector sets of 2006 included the LECA Automobile from the Insider Tour, the Ultimate Collector Series Death Star II (10143-1) and a number of 2005 Toy Fair Star Wars minifigures including Darth Vader, Anakin Skywalker and Luminara Unduli.
