2005 / Racers

In 2005 LEGO released 29 Racers sets across 5 subthemes. The largest Racers set from 2005 was 8653 Enzo Ferrari 1:10 with a piece count of 1360 and a retail price of $99.99. The current estimated value of all these Racers sets from this year is about $2,936.67 which represents a 544.1% growth.

The LEGO Racers theme which was introduced in 2001 was the successor of LEGO Race. Since the theme started, most race cars in LEGO System and TECHNIC universe have been released under the LEGO Racers theme. Racers was discontinued in 2012 and it was succeeded by Speed Champions, introduced in 2015.

2005 LEGO Sets

2005 shaped up to be a significant year for LEGO collections. Starting with the fact that LEGO System celebrated its 50th anniversary, we also saw a LEGO set designers change their techniques in set designing. 2006 marked the year that the skin color of the Star Wars minifigures changed from yellow to light nougat which also continued to various other future licensed themes. While this was a simple change, the value of sets saw high growth. 2006 introduced the LEGO City theme which replaced the Town theme, as well as Tiny Turbos under the Racers theme. However, in 2006 LEGO did discontinue Alpha Team and Baby.
