Insights

Retired vintage train hardware like Switch Track, a 45V-era component, draws collectors for its unique blue 4.5V switch element with white ties and system incompatibility, and scarcity after retirement supports post-retirement appreciation, while accessory-level demand and condition sensitivity keep trading depth and liquidity limited.

Set Facts

It consists of blue 4.5V train track switch points (left and right) with white ties, along with two yellow round 1x1 bricks with solid studs.

BrickTrains-Sets

“The Lego 154 Switch Track was a track accessory that didn’t come with any other set, it was sold separately. The set only had 4 pieces, two cylinder pieces, and a left and right switch track. What made this set unique was that you put the yellow cylinder piece onto the... More switch track, and now you can have your trains go in different directions.”

About Trains 4.5V

These are the first LEGO trains, sold from 1966 to 1971 and run on 4.5 volts. The power came from a battery box holding three 1.5 volt batteries, carried in a tender or wagon behind the engine, and the motor of 1966 was the first LEGO motor of any kind. The track was blue rails clipped onto sleepers, which is where the name Blue Era comes from.

4.5V consists of 39 sets that ran from 1966 to 1971. As of today, 113-2 Motorized Train Set is the most valuable 4.5V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $3,836.
