Compared with other Licensed sets

The main reason Orient Express falls near the foot of the Licensed sets is that its climb has barely started since it retired only in December 2025. It also does not help that it launched at several times the price of most sets above it.

Jays Brick Blog
“Train fans will be in for a treat with the model, which notably has been colour-swapped to blue, matching The Orient Express that’s more widely known in popular culture and is the current livery of the active train. The set also comes with 8 minifigures featuring a lively... More cast of characters, from an engineer, conductor, as well as guests on the opulent train.”

The Brothers Brick
“The set rumbles in with a 4-6-0 steam locomotive, a 3-axle tender, a restaurant car, and a sleeping car with two classes of accommodations. Nearly every Ideas set provokes opinions, positive and negative, about changes between the original submission and the released set. In... More this case, reaction has been especially mixed because there are significant changes.”

About Ideas Licensed

Licensed is where LEGO Ideas sets based on films, TV series, games, music and brands are filed. Each began as a fan design that reached 10,000 supporters on the Ideas website before LEGO reviewed it, and the fan whose design is made gets a share of the sales. Licensed ideas are harder to get made, because LEGO also needs an agreement with the owner, and many popular projects have stopped at that step.

Licensed was introduced in 2012 and currently consists of 43 sets. As of today, 21348 Dungeons & Dragons Red Dragon's Tale is the most valuable Licensed set with an estimated new/sealed value of $540.
Summary
Ideas Licensed Orient Express set 21344 was released in December 2023, retailing for $300, but has since been retired. New, unopened Orient Express sets are valued at $476, while used sets can be found for $369.
