260-2 1:87 VW Beetle was a Classic HO 1:87 scale vehicle set released in 1958. The Volkswagen Beetle was sold in in two models: the short and longer version. The beetles were made of transparent plastic and then painted, and there were models made of colored plastic. These were the models for LEGO VW made as advertising models.

There was a special plate bearing the eight different beetles in different colors that were then available in the VW Dealers. An inscription on bottom states "VW 1200" Based on current trends, this set could be valued near $358 within the next year.

1:87 VW Beetle is an incredibly rare set. Set 260-2 has not been available for sale online or in retail stores in new/good condition for over one year. Boxes in well-preserved condition are considered museum-grade collectibles, representing the very origins of LEGO. Its true market value is likely higher than the current estimate. A special display plate with eight different Beetle color variations was available at VW dealerships, with "VW 1200" inscribed on the bottom of the models.

The LEGO HO 1:87 Vehicles subtheme, also referred to as LEGO small vehicles where plastic sets released in the 1950's and 1960's to compliment LEGO sets which could be used to build houses, gas stations, garages, shops and more. These vehicles sets remailed in production for almost ten years until they were replaced by LEGOLAND vehicles in the early 1970s. LEGO made the these small 1:87 scale vehicles until around 1969.
