Brickipedia
“The vehicle consists of a wheeled transport platform with a detachable cockpit section at its front and a small base that can be unloaded from the rear of the platform. The three-in-one design is similar to the design of 6926 Mobile Recovery Vehicle.”

Brickset
“This is another three-section vehicle which came out at the same time as 6926. It is certainly a nice-looking set, but unlike 6926 the ground-base is completely empty and almost totally exposed. Not only that, but the detached mid-section serves no apparent function. Still,... More a nice model and a good selection of useful pieces.”

About Space Classic

Classic Space began in 1978, the same year as the LEGO minifigure, and it was one of the first three themes to use it, along with Castle and Town. The astronauts came in red and white at first, with yellow, black and blue added in the 1980s, all in the same suit with the planet logo on the chest and an air tank on the back. Unlike almost every space line after it, Classic Space had no villains, only explorers with rovers, rockets, lunar bases and grey crater baseplates.

Classic consists of 90 sets that ran from 1978 to 2015. As of today, 926 Command Center is the most valuable Classic set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $4,799.
Summary
Space Classic Modular Space Transport set 6892 was released in January 1986, retailing for $15, but has since been retired. New, unopened Modular Space Transport sets are valued at $600, while used sets can be found for $59 in good condition.
