Insights

App-dependent electronics and aging software make the 2019 Star Wars Boost release Droid Commander a niche hold, and while the inclusion of three identifiable droids gives the set collector interest, the absence of minifigures and modest post-retirement momentum keep broader demand and liquidity constrained.

Set Facts

The set includes 3 buildable LEGO Star Wars droids: R2-D2, Gonk Droid, and Mouse Droid.
Interactive features include a color & distance sensor, interactive motor, and a Bluetooth-controlled Move Hub.
Buildable props include rocket boosters, a catapult, a cake shooter, a target, color decoder, and obstacles.
It is the first time the LEGO BOOST coding technology has been used in a LEGO licensing product.
Droid Commander was designed by LEGO designer Carl Merriam.

HispaBrick

“Little by little you build different props and attachments that help you set the stage for each mission and the link between the on-screen experience and the physical play is really fun.”

Full review at www.hispabrickmagazine.com

“This is a pretty decent set, but I'd probably describe it more as an "experience" than a typical LEGO set. Be sure to check the requirements, as you will absolutely need to have the right type of device to use the corresponding app that goes with the "experience".”

Full review at www.lego.com

New Elementary

“75253 Droid Commander contains a rich and diverse inventory with several new moulds created especially for it, some nice recolours and unique decorated elements. Even without the Powered Up Hub, R2-D2 makes a nice display model – although it's not the kind of set you buy to... More put on a shelf. With three main models and a wide array of accessories, the building experience is interesting.”
