Brickset
“Simple to build and the detail is great for its time. Sure the train car only holds one car, but you could always add another rail car of your own creation to expand. This is certainly hard to find, and even harder to find in the box, but is a great addition to any train set... More old or new.”

BrickTrains-Sets
“The Lego 7839 Car Transport Depot is much like the Lego 7823 Container Crane Depot in a sense that this set is for transporting cars, and the 7823 is for cargo. The set includes 340 pieces, and of those pieces are a line of 12 volt track, two minifigures, train wagon, and a... More car. The set is a platform that has ramps on either side of it that you can move the car into.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,296.
Summary
Trains 4.5V / 12V Car Transport Depot set 7839 was released in September 1986, retailing for $35, but has since been retired. New, unopened Car Transport Depot sets are valued at $490, while used sets can be found for $124 in good condition.
