“The LEGO Dark Side Developer Kit is a fantastic follow-up to the Droid Developer Kit, featuring 578 pieces and a micro Scout motor that offers multiple builds without the need for software. The standout AT-AT model is both large and impressively stable, while other models, like the Destroyer Droid and Vulture Droid, showcase fun walking and moving mechanisms. Despite some mechanical challenges with certain designs, the set provides a great mix of classic and studless Technic elements.”
 

About Mindstorms Star Wars

LEGO Mindstorms Star Wars, specifically known as the "Droid Developer Kit," was released in 1999 and combined the programmable robotics of LEGO Mindstorms with the beloved Star Wars universe. Set number 9748, the Droid Developer Kit, allowed users to build and program Star Wars droids. One of the most iconic builds from this set was a version of R2-D2. The kit used the RCX programmable brick (similar to other early Mindstorms sets) as the "brain" to control the droids and came with specific building instructions and programming tasks tailored to the Star Wars theme. It provided fans a unique blend of LEGO robotics and Star Wars creativity.

Fear not. The heart of the set is the Micro Scout miniprocessor with a built-in light sensor, motor, and seven "behaviors" that describe the robots' movements and actions. Clear instructions help you build droids of various complexity. Our Jedi Apprentice droid was more fun to build than we expected. Rummaging through the divided tray holding the many components became a kind of game in itself. This toy is best enjoyed by kids and grown-ups together, but technically precocious youngsters could manage very well on their own.
