2017

In 2017 LEGO proved once again to be a supurb year for collectors with the release of 650 sets, many highly sought after. This included 140 promotional and special released sets in addition to the 510 retail sets released through LEGO.com, the LEGO store and various other retail channels.

Based on the 650 sets released for that year, the retail value was $20,040.82 with a current value of $52,809.25 for the combined new/factory sealed sets. As of present, the best performing theme for 2017 is currently Minecraft which has seen an average annual growth of upwards of 17% to date.

2017 was a big year for the LEGO movies with the release of The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago Movie. With these films LEGO gave us a number of new sets and themes around these movies, with many of them already being significant investments for collectors. We also saw a number of new themes released that year including BrickHeadz, DC Super Hero Girls, Boost and of course sets for The LEGO Batman and The LEGO Ninjago movies. However, sadly as it is LEGo did retire the much beloved BIONICLE and Mixels themes as well as the short-lived The Angry Birds Movie theme.
