“After building the model, I must say that I’m amazed, and I can only recommend it to every LEGO fan, builder, and collector. It’s a nice display piece, the kids can play with it, and the building experience is also amazing and hard enough for adult fans of LEGO!”

“If the LEGO Disney theme was aimed at AFOLs, this is what it would be. It is hard to imagine what more a Disney fan could want from a set based on Steamboat Willie, with the designers having taken the unorthodox step of making a model bigger than the original fan design.”

Brickset
“Designer John Ho has done an admirable job of turning a lacklustre submission into a model that's appealing and desirable. It's a very decent model but something just does not look right to me and that of course is that it's devoid of colour. I get that it's based on a... More black-and-white cartoon so has to be, but I can't help wondering how much more attractive it would look had it been built with a normal palette of hues.”

Steamboat Willie!! — “The Steamboat Willie was fun and intricate! I loved the building of the internal mechanics and inner workings of the steamboat engine! I was so happy to see the designer showcase the black and white palette as in the cartoon. I loved all the details and intricate additions added to the piece! This is truly a display piece for any Disney fan!”

About Ideas Licensed

Licensed is where LEGO Ideas sets based on films, TV series, games, music and brands are filed. Each began as a fan design that reached 10,000 supporters on the Ideas website before LEGO reviewed it, and the fan whose design is made gets a share of the sales. Licensed ideas are harder to get made, because LEGO also needs an agreement with the owner, and many popular projects have stopped at that step.

Licensed was introduced in 2012 and currently consists of 43 sets. As of today, 21348 Dungeons & Dragons Red Dragon's Tale is the most valuable Licensed set with an estimated new/sealed value of $540.
Summary
Ideas Licensed Steamboat Willie set 21317 was released in April 2019, retailing for $90, but has since been retired. New, unopened Steamboat Willie sets are valued at $150, while used sets can be found for $95 in good condition.

Disney Mickey Mouse fans will love this LEGO® Ideas 21317 Steamboat Willie building toy marking the 90th anniversary of the most famous cartoon character ever. Mickey Mouse made his screen debut in a 1928 black-and-white animated short film called ‘Steamboat Willie’, which was also the first Disney film to have synchronized sound.

This LEGO brick version of the S.S. Willie features steam pipes that move up and down and paddle wheels that rotate when the boat is pushed along. The boat’s bridge has room for a minifigure and play-inspiring nautical details such as the ship’s wheel, life buoy and buildable bell. On deck there is a working crane to lift the ‘potato bin’ cargo aboard and this unique toy building set comes with new-for-April-2019 Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse minifigures, each with special silver-colored decoration, plus a parrot figure.

An ideal LEGO set for kids and adults to recreate scenes from the original Mickey Mouse cartoon or simply build and display...
