LEGO 727-1 Locomotive is a Trains 4.5V / 12V set released in 1977, containing 134 pieces. The model is a European-style locomotive based on Deutsche Bahn livery, built in red, black, and gray with a yellow stripe running along the sides. Transparent roof tiles are used for the front and rear cab windows, and the set was co-branded with Int. Europe. It also includes stickers for several European rail companies, allowing the locomotive to be finished in different operator markings.

“The Lego 727 Locomotive is a full functioning train engine, unlike the 162 Locomotive. This set contains 134 pieces, and is part of the 12 volt line. The set bears an uncanny resemblance to the 123 Passenger coach, but the 727 has a motor and can run on it’s own, while the... More 123 passenger coach doesn’t. Bothe sets have the insignia INT Europe, what was the reason for this completely useless cameo? I suppose that they were trying to keep the past alive.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,957.
