“Usually a set with a baseplate like this would be the large base for a theme, but of course Futuron has the legendary (and legendarily expensive) 6990 Monorail Transport System to take on that role. That relegates Cosmic Laser Launcher (or, as the UK would have it, Star Base... More One (“around £22.00”)) to the second spot in the theme.”

“The rocket is chunky, but I love how the walls open while the rocket is raised up. The clever moving function is enabled by a Technic rack winder. Futuron base features walls that open up to launch a rocket. Includes three astronauts and a truck to transport the rocket.”

About Space Futuron

Futuron was a LEGO Space subtheme released between 1987 and 1989 whose storyline featuresd a group of civilian space explorers that competed against the astronauts from Blacktron. Futuron was the next generation of Classic Space inheriting its white-and-blue color scheme and the same logo. Futuron sets comprised two large ground-based installations, the Monorail Transport System and various spacecrafts, ground vehicles and rovers.

Futuron consists of 18 sets that ran from 1987 to 1989. As of today, 6990 Monorail Transport System is the most valuable Futuron set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $3,571.
