“The red diesel locomotive looks somewhat blocky, but the design is unique until today. Similar to set 7710, the heavy 4,5v motor is connected to the train base by only 4 studs. I really like this set, because it looks different than any other train sets of the grey era. The... More battery operated motor is not that fast, but it makes the train to move like a hinny: nothing can stop it. As always with goods trains, playability is quite good.”

In my 183: Train set with motor and signal review, I just hated how big and bulky the train wagons came out. But now, they kind of disguised it up a bit to make it... More look like a storage wagon, which was a nice touch. It also came with a 167: Car transport wagon from previous year, and it is used here as a hold for a bull dozer. This set would make a great addition to any Lego train track.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,957.
