“From 1980 to 1982, three single locomotives were available. In 1983, they all were replaced by this model. It's a modern styled diesel engine, but without any fancy gadgets. Its design is symmetrical and straightforward, but Lego did not forget to donate some details like... More ladders and lights dummies. Adding the lights kit 7861 is possible, but makes the model look awkward. After a short period of only two years of selling, it vanished without being replaced. It was the last single locomotive until Lego made a new approach in 1991 with set 4551.”

The set includes 164 pieces, 14 more pieces then the 7760, but has less minifigures. Besides having almost identical names, Lego... More totally redesigned this set different from the 7760. First thing you would notice that this set is a red color, not the blue color of the 7760 Diesel Shunter Locomotive.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,957.
