Brickset
Frist add-on for 7740 — “A good set to enhance your 7740 train. But it had a short selling period. As 7740 was replaced by 7745 in 1985, this one also disappeared. Lego did nothing similar for the high-speed train 7745, but the 9v Metroliner got an additional sleeper car in 1993.”

Brickset
“Designed and marketed clearly to complement the Passenger Train Set 7740, this train car is a masterpiece of Lego ingenuity and versatility. Simply, it is a beauty to admire on its own -- even when it is not coupled to train 7740. All in all, this is an attractive and... More well-designed Lego set, simple yet clever, and a must have especially for Lego train enthusiasts.”

“The set also has an opening door, but besides that this set is not all that different from the other passenger wagons. I suppose they made all these different passenger wagons to add on to future, or even present train sets. This would make a good installment on your Lego... More train track.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

4512V covers the LEGO trains of the 4.5 V and 12 V systems from the 1970s and 1980s. The 4.5 V trains ran on batteries carried in a wagon or tender, while the 12 V trains drew power from conductor rails laid between the running rails, fed by a transformer with a speed control. Until 1980 the track was blue, which gave these years the name of the Blue Era.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,368.
