Second add-on for 7740 — “Interestingly, it wasn't announced as such in the 1983 catalog. It was presented just like any other new set. It replaced 7820 and it uses the big sliding doors, which were new parts in 1983. The alternate model is a shortened version, which is similar to the mail van from... More set 7722 (which was released afterwards in 1985).”

Usually it would be the blue jump suit guys with the red caps, and I’m impressed that they made a new minifigure... More for this; I thought they might keep on doing it until the 90’s.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $7,186.
