Insights

Released as a McDonald’s promotional Matoran in 2001, Kongu is tied to early Bionicle lore with a unique small mask variant and simple action feature, and its long retirement supports gradual appreciation, while promo scale and giveaway origins keep post-retirement performance more volatile and capped.

Set Facts

The set was included in McDonald's Happy Meals in September 2001 as one of the six "Tohunga" sets. Each Happy Meal came with one of the six sets, randomly selected.
Kongu wears a teal Miru. Also included is a Bamboo Disk featuring Lewa's Kanohi Miru and the mask's name.
Set Composition: 1392 Kongu includes eight pieces: three lime green, three turquoise, one gray, and one black, including a mask and a disk.
Disk Feature: The set features a disk that can be flung by placing it in Kongu's throwing hand, pulling back, and releasing it.
Mask Details: Kongu wears a powerless Kanohi Miru, the Mask of Levitation.

“It specifically portrays him as he appeared after his diminishment from being inside a Matoran Sphere. By combining pieces from Kongu with 1390 Maku and 1393 Matoro, one can build a Matoran Kaita. Kongu can also be combined with 1388 Huki, 1389 Onepu, 1390 Maku, 1391 Jala,... More and 1393 Matoro to create a Matoran Nui.”

About Bionicle Matoran

The Matoran are the villagers of BIONICLE, small figures each with a mask and a tool, belonging to one of the six elemental tribes, fire, water, air, earth, stone and ice. The first ones came in 2001, and they were the people the Toa heroes were sent to protect. Several of them became heroes later in the story. Takua became Takanuva, the Toa of Light, in 2003, and in 2006 Jaller, Hahli, Kongu, Nuparu, Hewkii and Matoro were turned into the Toa Inika.

Matoran consists of 35 sets that ran from 2001 to 2008. As of today, 8546 Bionicle Power Pack is the most valuable Matoran set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $187.
