Insights

A gift-with-purchase from the Ideas line released and retired in 2022, Ray the Castaway pairs an exclusive castaway minifigure with a compact island vignette that has kept post-retirement interest steady, and constrained supply plus low remake risk support moderate long-term prospects while its small, non-licensed format limits upside.

Set Facts

The set was a GWP and available with orders above £120 / $120 / €120 at LEGO brand stores and online.
The desert island model features a buildable shelter, raft and palm trees, plus a Ray minifigure and parrot, crab and 2 fish figures.

Brick Fanatics

“40566 Ray the Castaway also notably continues the LEGO Group’s impressive run of mini sets it has offered as a gift-with-purchase, all of which are more-than-credible as standalone creations you could otherwise expect to buy off the shelf.”

Full review at www.brickfanatics.com

Bricksfanz

“It’s a fun little set, with a couple of great use of parts to add unique details. The palm trees are interesting as they have the new multiple stem flower elements under each leaf, giving them extra texture. The S.O.S message is also clever, using two snake decorations often... More found in the NINJAGO sets as S’s and a lifesaver ring for the O.”

About Ideas Promotional

The LEGO Ideas theme, which started in 2008 as an offshoot of the Japanese website Cuusoo, then formally known as LEGO Cuusoo, is based around a website which allows users to submit ideas for LEGO products to be turned into potential sets available commercially. If fellow users in the LEGO Ideas community up vote the project to 10000 then LEGO Group has a committee which votes on whether to build the set and release it. If the project is approved and cleared for production, it is developed and later released as an official set under the "LEGO Ideas" banner and the original designer receives 1% of the royalties and a number of free sets. Typically, a few projects are approved a year and most are rejected due to various restrictions.

Promotional was introduced in 2019 and currently consists of 13 sets. As of today, 40698 Books Are My Passion is the most valuable Promotional set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $92.
