An easy start into the 12v world — “One year after the initial release of the new system, this set is an addendum to the range of 12v starter sets. Compared to 7730 and 7740, you had to pay less money, but the set was reduced to the minimum of required parts: only one single minifig, only a circled track... More without straight sections, many basic bricks. Even the seats are placed on square 2x2 plates, while all passenger seats from other passenger cars are placed on round 2x2 plates.”

“The set included 485 pieces, including a track worth of rails, and a minifigure. The train includes three train wagons, the main train engine that makes the train run, a passenger wagon to hold the minifigures, and another train engine on the other side! Sadly, the set... More doesn’t have the ability to run on two motors, one being that it would burn out the other motor, and two technology back then wasn’t that advanced. Now days, that would be easily achieved! Does that take away from the set? A little bit I admit, but not so much that it would damage the reputation for the set. This would make an excellent addition to any Lego train track.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,957.
