The first big mail van — “This wagon is the third set from 1980 that comes with the big 6x28 train baseplate. The sliding doors were not invented yet, so Lego had to find another solution. Instead, they used the "shed style" doors for loading the freight, and this doesn't look too bad. This wagon is... More nothing special, but it can be used in different ways. Add it to a 7740 (in the pre-7819 era). Or buy two of them, take a 7750 and create a new train (this option is shown in some contemporary ads).”

This particular set is interesting, first off it is it’s shape, it is a lot longer than some wagons at the time, but is the same size as more modern train wagons we have today. The Mail van includes 212 pieces,... More of those pieces it comes with two worker minifigures. This would make a nice festive flare to any Lego Train Track.”

About Trains 4.5V / 12V

In 1972 LEGO released the 4.5V and 12V train sets as part of the Blue Era which was named because of the rail color. These train sets used additional conductor rails mounted between the standard 4.5V rails and 12V motors contained in the same housings as the 4.5V motors, but with additional metal contacts attached to the bottom of the housings.

4.5V / 12V consists of 83 sets that ran from 1972 to 1986. As of today, 7750 Steam Engine with Tender is the most valuable 4.5V / 12V set with an estimated new/factory sealed value of $6,957.
