2011

In 2011 LEGO proved once again to be a supurb year for collectors with the release of 444 sets, many highly sought after. This included 67 promotional and special released sets in addition to the 377 retail sets released through LEGO.com, the LEGO store and various other retail channels.

Based on the 444 sets released for that year, the retail value was $12,418.79 with a current value of $87,421.06 for the combined new/factory sealed sets. As of present, the best performing theme for 2011 is currently SpongeBob SquarePants which has seen an average annual growth of upwards of 14% to date.

For collectors, 2011 was a significant year in that LEGO released the first Internal sets Moulding Machines (4000001) and LOM 2011 Moulding (4000002) which have paved the way for high value future collections. A few notable themes introduced in 2011 were Ninjago, Winnie the Pooh, SpongeBob SquarePants, Alien Conquest and LEGO Master Builder Academy. Of course LEGO Ninjago set the stages for a decade of collecting. However, in 2011 LEGO also discontinued a number of themes which included Ben 10, Power Miners, Toy Story, Prince of Persia, Space Police III, BrickMaster and the loved Trains theme.
