Insights

Retired and sought after within the Pirates theme, Red Beard Runner, with its named Captain Redbeard and classic rigging, benefits from age-driven scarcity of sealed copies, and collectors’ nostalgia; reissues and later pirate reworks introduce competition and condition sensitivity that temper upside.

Eurobricks

“The Red Beard Runner, though being heavily criticized by many serious Lego fans, is not a set that I would afford to miss. Red Beard Runner is an official pirate ship set released back in 1996. The ship is a large pirate vessel featuring an unique red 16-stud wide hull, two... More mast and three sails. The ship is designed with "playability" at heart so that the front mast and stern could "collapse" once triggered by certain mechanism. Nothing is repetitive and the building of these "collapse" mechanisms do add a lot fun to build.”

Lego Maniacs' Guide

“As an entry in Lego's league of larger ships, the Red Beard Runner is somewhat smaller (using only two center sections between fore and aft specialty pieces) and does not have as filled-out a design as those other ships, but close inspection of the model does show some... More redeeming features and I confess it was fun to assemble. The Red Beard Runner is a two-masted ship whose most distinctive feature is the rear end of the ship that looks like a skull.”

About Pirates

Pirates was a LEGO theme introduced in 1989, running until 1997 and focused on the classic idea of Caribbean pirates that were pitted against soldiers of colonial empires. As the series progressed through the years, more factions were introduced and the older ones were phased out of production. The Pirates were one of the first two original factions in the theme to be introduced.

Captain Redbeard and his renegade Pirates want to get their hands on the Imperial gold. With the building sets from the LEGO SYSTEM Pirate collection, only you, the LEGO MANIAC, can help keep the gold with its rightful owners.
