LEGO 2016 Sets

2016 was yet another great year for LEGO collectors and investors. 2016 saw a staggering 675 sets released, not including gear or books, with 136 promotional and not for retail sets.

Based on the 675 sets released for that year, the retail value was $24,245.52 with a current value of $60,206.80 for the combined new/factory sealed sets. As of present, the best performing theme for 2016 is currently BrickHeadz which has seen an average annual growth of upwards of 26% to date. With the 78 sets that year, the Minifigure Series theme had the most released sets.

2016 saw some truly iconic releases with sets from Ghostbusters and the introduction of the Nexo Knights. LEGO also released the licensed, but short-lived The Angry Birds Movie theme. However, LEGO did discontinue Legends of Chima, Pirates and also the LEGO Simpsons which only did see a couple of sets. The Creator theme really shined in 2016 with the release of the Volkswagen Beetle (10252-1) and Big Ben (10253-1). The shining star that year for investors was certainly the Ghostbusters Firehouse Headquarters and pretty much all the Speed Champions sets which have seen growth in the triple digits.
